A natural extention to the Moon Child  program, the Sandy Pond School  is for children ages eight to twelve, with a focus on the learning opportunities easily available here upon the pond. It is a year round program, and like all educational programs I provide, it adheres to Common Core Standards for English Language Arts and Mathmatics as set forth in the "Common Core State Standards Initiative ©2010", and Maine’s Learning Standards' Guiding Principles as they further apply to Social Studies, Visual and Performing Arts, World Languages, and Education Development. It is also by definition and pratice, a project based learning program. Scheduling for classes available to home school and out of school groups too.

I am also very proud to be a part of the Maine Phenology Project  Signs of the Season  and have the Sandy Pond School participate along with other sites I have offered the program.

About Signs of the Seasons: Participants in the Signs of the Seasons program help scientists document the local effects of global climate change by observing and recording the phenology (seasonal changes) of common plants and animals living in their own backyards and communities. The University of Maine Cooperative Extension and Maine Sea Grant coordinate the program in partnership with the USA National Phenology Network (USA-NPN), Acadia National Park, Schoodic Education and Research Center, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Maine Maritime Academy, Maine Audubon, and climate scientists and educators at the University of Maine.

I'd be happy to help your school, library, recreation, or other group get their own Signs of the Season program up and running! I have resources and experience to add to what is available through the University of Maine.  I can meet with facilitators and share ideas, offer a classrom visit to entice the kids with some of what has been learned in my own programs, or even be part of the introductory walk through of your site with the students!
